Op. Dr. Kerem Bıkmaz has graduated from the Medical Faculty of Trakya University and has specialized in neurosurgery in The Ministry of Health Okmeydanı Education and Research Hospital. He has successfully completed his training courses at The European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) during the four year period of his education as an assistant. After he completed his specialization period, he started to work as the head assistant of Okmeydanı Education and Research Hospital. However, he left his office temporarily and went on to receive microsurgery training from Prof. Dr. Gazi Yaşargil in the Neurosurgery Department of Arkansas UniversityUSA for two years. During this period, he actively participated in many operations regarding brain tumors, cerebrovascular diseases and skull base surgeries. He also carried out scientific research projects on the same subjects. He has improved his knowledge and experience on brain anatomy through his studies in which he used fiber dissection technique in Prof Gazi Yaşargil anatomy laboratory. The verbal notification he prepared by using these studies has led to his being awarded in The National Congress in Turkish Neurosurgery Association and also being awarded a grant to participate in the 13th Winter Congress of Federation of World Neurosurgery Associations held in November 2007 in Japan.
He carried out studies on microsurgical approaches to brain tumors and aneurysms at St. Louis University in USA during 2005 and has contributed to his level of experience on this subject. In 2006, he receieved a education on simple interventional techniques in neurosurgery and neuroendoscopic approaches from Mainz University of Germany. After such busy two years spent abroad, Dr. Bıkmaz went on working at the hospital again and had successfully completed the operations which require an advanced level of knowledge and experience in deep-rooted brain tumors and aneurysm surgery.
He carried out researches on advanced treatment of pain and minimal invasive techniques in spinal surgery in Neurosurgery Department of Rochester Mayo Clinic USA and Lebanon New Hampshire Darthmouth Hitchcock Medical Center during the years 2007 and 2008. In 2009, he successfully completed advanced courses regarding spinal injections, non-surgery treatment of waist-neck-back pains. These courses were held by North American Spinal – Spine Society.
Op. Dr. Kerem Bıkmaz has almost 100 scientific publications 41 of which are translated to other languages. He left his duty as a head assistant in The Department of Neurosurgery at The Ministry of Health Okmeydanı State Hospital in 2008 and went on working for İstanbul Surgery Hospital. In this hospital, he founded the center for diagnosis and treatment for head-waist-neck pains. Dr. Bıkmaz continues to receive his patients in İstanbul Neurosurgery and Pain Center which he is a founder of since 2009.
